Has It Really Been That Long?
Yesterday marked the 14th anniversary of when I joined the Marine Corps and reported to Parris Island. I was 18 years old, had graduated in the top five percent of my class in high school, and was determined to become a Marine. The day I left for Parris Island, I was nervous and the morning was beautiful and brisk, but I will never forget how sad my mother was. You see, I am an only child and my leaving was hard for her to accept at first. It took her a couple of years to adjust, but she did it. I am still having a hard time believing how quickly time has passed since that day.
Today marks the 10th anniversary of when I completed my four-year obligation to the Marine Corps and so much has happened since then. I am sitting here typing this while seeing flashes of events that have occurred in the past 14 years and asking myself, “Has it really been that long?”. I love who I am and what I have become since those early days and look forward to seeing what goals I will achieve next.
