The Great Thing About Running
It is finally Friday and the weather is perfect. The best thing about it is I will be off until Tuesday, which will give me the chance to run a total of 25 miles this weekend. I am running 15 miles tomorrow and 10 miles on Monday. Race day is almost here and the wonderful outdoors are beckoning to me like never before. I feel refreshed, vibrant, and energetic. I can’t wait to get out there and pound the pavement for the 15 miler.
If there has ever been an activity that allows me to completely clear my mind or engage is some deep pondering, it is running. I learned to love running when I enlisted in the Marine Corps and trained at Parris Island, SC. Sure, I had completed some preparatory training before joining, but all the running we did at Parris Island enabled me to truly appreciate the act of running and taught me to get in tune with my body. I don’t know about other people who participate in this activity, but running is a natural high for me. It gives me a deep sense of accomplishment and a feeling of euphoria after it is over.
I wonder how I’m going to feel after the marathon.
